Assignment 2: Le Bouncing Ball

My first official animation; I never thought the day would come!

Created on Harmony, I made several versions of this animation before I settled with the one posted here! I knew I had to keep it fairly simple since there was a harsh learning curve with the software, but once I got the hang of it, I was pretty pleased with my self. I chose an incline ramp to start with because I wanted to challenge myself to apply an exaggerated version of the squash and stretch concept to my ball. I quickly learned that with the higher velocity the ball had, the more it would stretch. When translating this is into the animation, I loved how organic and moldable the ball looked. Along with the ball moving through the "obstacles", smashing against a building on its way down, I thought I would further experiment with animating and added cracks appearing in each frame after the impact of the ball on the building. Overall, this was very exciting to create and I can't wait to do more!

Baby, I'm on Fire.

Hello fellow internet dwellers, and welcome to a personal space that just became not so personal. If you have no idea where I'm going with this, let me reveal a bit more to you. My name is Radhika and I am studio art major with video as my concentration. I'm 24 years old and some crucial information you all should know, I'm an Aries. I love creating and getting lost in the process. I would like exposure to all forms of art, hence my decision to take 2-D computer animation.

A quick overview of my past: 6 years. 6 long years of struggle, denying my passion for the arts, led me on a path of misery called chemical engineering. It wasn't until my 23rd birthday when I took a short pause to ask the universe the universal question, "why". Although this inquiry was only met with silence, the silence seemed to speak volumes. I interpreted this volume as a sign to get out and pursue the absolute heck out of the arts. So here I am. Finally doing exactly what I want and taking my first 2-D animation class (shout out to Professor Dana)! I am beyond excited and can't wait to start learning the basics. While I have no prior experiences with animation, I do love watching animation series'. Some of my favorites include:

  • Ricky and Morty
  • Adventure Time
  • Regular Show
  • Bob's Burgers
  • Tokyo Ghoul
  • Parasyte
  • Jujutsu Kaisen
  • Fruits Basket (I know I'm a loser but this anime always pulls at my heart strings and the animation of the reboot is A++)
  • ANYTHING Ghibli
  • BIG MOUTH
  • Bojack Horseman
  • Daria
  • ATLA and LOK (c'mon those are obvious ones!)
  • Cyanide and Happiness
  • Some parts of Broad City (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ9aoio2rAY)
  • Over the Garden Wall
I should probably stop there.

I really want to learn basic animation, like loops/cycles or boils, (I think that's what they are called) because I want to overlay those on live action film.

Well that's all for now. See y'all later.
